SpareHours is a new marketplace launching in Indianapolis. Here's honestly how it works today — and what we do and don't provide.
Every space is submitted by a real host and reviewed by a SpareHours administrator before it can appear publicly or be booked. We check that the listing looks legitimate and that the person appears authorized to list the space. We may edit, request changes to, reject, or suspend any listing.
Before a renter can book, they complete identity verification through Stripe Identity (a government ID and a selfie check). This is a one-time check per renter. We do not perform criminal background checks.
A Verified Host badge only appears after an administrator has manually completed our review of that host. It is not an endorsement or a guarantee, and it is not a background check. We do not claim to run criminal-record or credit checks on hosts.
Renters pay securely up front through Stripe. Listing is free for hosts, who keep 100% of the hourly rate they set; renters pay a 15% SpareHours service fee on top, shown before payment. Host payouts are made through Stripe once the host completes Stripe Connect onboarding.
Hosts may require a refundable security deposit, charged at checkout and held during the booking. After a clean checkout it is refunded automatically. If there's damage, the host can file a claim with photo evidence within the deposit window; the remainder of the deposit is refunded to the renter. SpareHours is not an insurer and does not guarantee against loss or damage beyond the held deposit.
We do not provide insurance, damage protection beyond the security deposit, background checks, or any guarantee of a space's condition, safety, or legality. Hosts and renters are responsible for their own conduct, safety, and compliance with local laws.
